Vote and win a grand

Montana Book AwardsVoting is closing soon in the Montana Readers' Choice Award. And why are we telling you? Because a vote puts you in the draw to win $1,000 of Booksellers Tokens, and we'd dearly love a LeafSalon reader to nab that prize.

Voting closes at 5pm next Friday (14 July) and all you have to do is pick your favourite book from the 26 finalists selected by the judges.

So who will it be? Manhire or Marshall? Kidman or Kennedy? Knox or Cox? Just go here and click the 'vote now' button on the right of the page.

Good luck. (And if you saw it here first and win the grand, slip us a fiver, willya?)

Well, I saw the reminder here first so that's worth 10%...and it had an email prompt, and that's worth another...hey, I'll go halves ok?
Torn between the Philip Simpson rata& pohutukawa book & the Miriama/Ranui weaving book...chose one!

Easy one for me, Owen Marshall.

(I'd love to see the Vissor book 'Swimming with Orca' though. Next time I'm in Christchurch I must look for it.)

Yep, she's done some really interesting worldclass research on orca- who can forget the stingray frisbees?!! (not sure about the book itself tho- is available through Realgroovy by the by-)

Owen's - nope. Found the extracts in the CHCH Press pedantic & boring & didnt buy the book. Whereas I did buy Philip's book, and have, cherished, a copy of "Maori Weaving"-

Thank you Leafsalon. Yes, I agree with Islander - top marks for the reminder and the email link - I have just voted and probably wouldn't have got around to doing so without the prompt!
... and yes, it is Owen Marshall's "Watch of Gryphons". He is the master craftsman and rewards re-reading.... mind you, I haven't read all the others!

I had great trouble between Dreamhunter and Responsibility. Not telling... what a bunch tho. Must read Owen's - perhaps we'll get it in as a review copy. I'll need a big shot of something after finishing The Tiime Traveller's Wife. Just amazing...

I'm with you Kathy -- Dreamhunter was original and clever and nightmarish and is firmly stamped in my reading memory, so I'll be open that that was my choice (and thanks for the reminder.) But there are so many fine contenders. I have only just started Responsibility so can't comment on that yet, but Captive Wife has a powerful voice and strong story, Sport is an ongoing reading experience that never disappoints and I can't forget Bill's poems that sidle up to you and cling like burrs -- like the ladder that longed to be lifted. And there's more of course, I clearly don't read enough non-fiction and I wish I'd read Anne Kennedy's ....

Now I'm torn -- I've finished Cox's Responsibility and it's marvelous.
