2005 was the inaugural year for the online Certificate in Creative Writing put together by the Waiariki Institute of Technology in Rotorua. It’s been very successful by all accounts, and the first lot of 20-odd students have now graduated.
It’s a Level 4, one year part time course, and modules on offer include journalism, the short story, poetry, editing, writing with a Maori voice, writing for children, family history and others. The course opens on 27th February with two 6-week modules, Introduction to Creative Writing with Sue Emms, and Contemporary Maori Writers & Writing with Kingi Mckinnon.
