Publish and be damned

images.jpgHere’s a new kid on the block: a Diploma in Publishing. And it’s one of those ‘study at your own pace’ numbers. The first two courses start in July and further courses will be going on next year. It’s all happening at Whitireia, but it doesn’t matter where it is, actually, because… you can do it online.

You can mix’n’match too by the sound of it – do any or all of the modules. There’s editing, for example, where you learn, among other things, to assess a manuscript and get to grips with all the principles of the editor’s role (including those pesky proofreading symbols); or typesetting and technology, where you’ll learn the new fabulous Adobe InDesign plus the ‘principles and traditions of book design and typography’.

The full Diploma – and it can all be done part-time – covers the full monty, from developing and assessing, through editing and production to marketing. It's no bargain though, be warned. However, the first course starts on 25 July and you must apply by 30 June. For details contact Rachel Lawson, r.lawson@whitireia.ac.nz, or check out the website above.
