Pataka Museum and Gallery in Porirua has an interesting exhibition coming up in mid-April combining the written word with art. It’s not new, but we all love it; it’s something I’ve wittered on about in the past, and something that our two greatest artistic icons, Colin McCahon and Ralph Hotere, just can't do without.
But that's neither here nor there. Four enterprising chicks comprising poet Helen Heath and painters Kirsty Morison and Daisy Wood along with Hinemoana Baker have taken matters into their own hands and are collaborating in a show doing just that. Kissed, it’s called. OK, so my 'related picture' is tenuous to say the least, but ... well, I offer no apology.
Anyway, they’ve created original artworks interpreting and incorporating poetry, the poetry becoming an integral part of the paintings, which are all about domesticity, community, and ‘finding the extraordinary in the ordinary’. This will definitely be worth a look. Pop it in your diaries, loveys.
And don't you dare go and get out your old Kiss albums, just 'cos I done gone reminded you. Bet you can't even name a single song now ... can you?
