Chocolate Fish SessionsWe all like a night out, even cardie-wearing bookish nerdypants like us. So here’s the perfect splurge: a weekly, no less, opportunity to meet local and international authors to discuss their work and lives. Oh, you can mingle and listen to some live music as well, whilst enjoying your complimentary drinks and nibbles.

This ongoing Wednesday night event will be named, kiwiana stylee: The Chocolate Fish Sessions. Sounds a bit, well, epic, no? It starts on 2 March and will be at the Jubilee Hall, 545 Parnell Road, Parnell, Auckland.

Doors open at 7pm with some live music by Anu Grace and Peter Reilly. Then you’ll have the presentation of Made in Morocco by Julie Le Clerc (author of six best-selling cookbooks, food editor for the Herald’s Viva, staff writer for Cuisine) and photographer John Bougen. They’ll be talking about their amazing trip through Morocco: food, people and culture ‘til 9pm, then signing their book for you. Ah, I remember Oued Laou … (but I may not remember how to spell it).

All for the measly sum of $10 at the door (no bookings)! And there’s heaps of parking available. Contact the delightfully-monikered Wheldon Curzon-Hobson at wheldon@thechocolatefishsessions.co.nz for any further info.

And check the quite spunky little website for upcoming events which will include Tessa Duder and Stephanie Johnson in the near future. How civilised to have a shot of culture on weekly tap and not have to wait for festivals!

Made in Morocco is an exquisite book - as much travel guide as recipe book - but the recipes are fabulous too and very simple to prepare - perfect for summer. My family gobbled up bbq fish kebabs and the couscous and pumpkin salad.
