Big win for Small Island

Andrea LevyThe 2004 Whitbread Book Award winners have just been announced. The five successful books now in the running for the Whitbread Book of the Year are:

Levy is now the favourite to win the £25,000 overall prize, after beating Booker winner Alan Hollinghurst's The Line of Beauty. The winners, each of whom will receive £5,000, were selected from 450 entries.

Having read Small Island, I am not surprised that it won as I thorougly enjoyed the book despite it being another in a (seemingly) long line of British immigrant fiction.
