The wacky burghers of Porirua City Council have blasted six poems by local poets into the footpaths around Parumoana Street.
The idea is to create 'random acts of poetry' to surprise, inspire and delight the good townsfolk as they perambulate about their City.
The poems were 'installed' by shot blasting the concrete to create inset textured letters, which were then coloured to aid clarity.
The featured wordsmiths are Porirua-born writers John Ansell, Lynn Davidson, Linzy Forbes, Robin Fry and Sam Hunt. They wisely checked the proofs before they were ‘set in concrete’.
If a trip to Porirua is out of the question, you’ll find all but one of the poems in a new book called Porirua Poems, Porirua Poets. It’s compiled by Bob Maysmor of Pataka Porirua Museum of Arts and Cultures.
