Here’s the bestsellers listing for the period ended 29 October. We’ll be starting to see some Christmas action soon no doubt and it should be interesting to see what Kiwis think makes the best beach reading…
In My Father’s Den, the Movie Tie-In Edition by Maurice Gee is still at number one having ousted Keri Hulme’s Stonefish last week. The film is going great guns too, it’s at number two in the local box office listings and is looking to crack half a mill in it’s first two weeks of release. Must try and get there before it hits the streets.
Stonefish is still at number two – I’m halfway through it and it’s great, go get it! The Denniston Rose by Jenny Pattrick is down but not forgotten at number three, and the movie tie-in of The Whale Rider by Witi Ihimaera is surprisingly back in the charts at number four, having disappeared for a wee while. Maybe it was Keisha’s appearance at Fashion Week that roused ‘em up again. Heart Of Coal, by Jenny Pattrick, is holding steady at number five. Jenny Pattick is going to be giving the Edmonds Cook book nightmares for chart mentions at this rate.
For non-fiction, we have Michael King back at the top spot, having ousted Sir Peter Black last week, with The Penguin History Of New Zealand, the aforementioned Sir Peter Blake: An Amazing Life by Alan Sefton has moved to number two. Standing Tall: The Tawera Nikau Story by Richard Becht is standing steady at number three and the good old Edmonds Cookery Book Revised Edition has bobbed up again to fourth place from number five. Finally, Hitting The Zone by Steve Williams & Hugh de Lacy has landed at number five from the great fairway in the collective subconscious. There’s a spot of early Christmas shopping methinks.
