We are in the presence of greatness: Terry Pratchett is not only in New Zealand, but also putting in the hard yards with a proper tour of the country to promote Going Postal.
He’s sold over 30 million books worldwide, and has been translated into 27 languages. Apparently, he’s Britain’s best-selling living fiction author, with sales of over 10m during the 1990s. (He’s now running at 1.25m sales a year.)
We haven’t read any Pratchett, but we’re impressed. A lot of overseas authors would put in a quick half hour of signing at Whitcoulls on Auckland’s Queen Street and then retire to the Hilton for a coupla days. But the creator of Discworld is doing the full slog around Godzone:

ahhh, The Pratchett! He is so good - not perfect, sooo good. My relaxo stories, my lolly reading...with substantial centres though. He takes the biggies, life, love, death (actually, DEATH, who talks like that, and rides a white horse called Binky (the thing is much more intelligent than it's name.)) Also, religion, the how&why of societies, and every classic fairy tale you can think of (turned arsesideup.) And there's over 25 of them!!!
Warning: if you dont like humour, whimsy, sadness, and fantasy, you'll hate Terry's books. If you do - the kids' ones are great too!
