Keri Hulme’s Stonefish has swum straight into the #1 spot in the New Zealand Fiction for Adults bestseller list.
Despite a relatively low-key New Zealand launch, Hulme’s collection of short stories, poems and prose pieces immediately out-sold Jenny Pattrick’s two novels.
It looks like the intelligent, revealing interview with Kim Hill on National Radio a couple of weeks ago paid off, and Iain Sharp’s review a day later in the Sunday Star Times probably did no harm either.
The Penguin History Of New Zealand remains at the top of the Non-Fiction chart, but there are no less than six re-entrants this week. Say hello again to The IBS Low-Starch Diet by Carol Sinclair, Of Course I Love You ... Now Go To Your Room by Diana Levy, New Zealand Aotearoa by Craig Potton, and The Lord Of The Rings Location Guidebook - Extended Version by Ian Brodie.
Also returning are Joan Bishop's New Zealand Crockpot And Slow Cooker Cookbook (New Edition) - a fascinating read by all accounts - and Furry Logic by Jane Seabrook.
The sole new face is Keeping It Off by Suzanne Prentice & Sharon Course, gettin' it on at #6.
