William ColensoBethunes’ third auction at Webb’s in Newmarket takes place on Wednesday 8 September at 10am.

Some good prices were realised last month, including $80,000 for a complete set of Cook’s Voyages, $8,200 for a WWI Diary of the Gallipoli Campaign and $1,300 for a Diary of the 1915 Hinemoa Opera Tour.

Going under the hammer this month are a first edition of The New Zealanders by George French Angus, a collection of documents and letters from William Colenso (pictured), and rare illustrations from J L White’s The Ancient History of the Maori.

Ornithological and hunting titles also feature, including a copy of Godman's Monograph of the Petrels containing over a hundred handcoloured lithographs by Keulemans.

The latest catalogue is available here, and items can be viewed on Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th September from 9am to 5.30pm.
