We were chuffed to get an email from David Howard drawing our attention to 'Capital of the Minimal: the Dunedin Sound'.
It’s an anthology he has edited comprising 23 poets and songwriters from Otago, including some unreleased lyrics (well, it’s poetry really, witness Submarine Bells) and rare old MP3s from the likes of Martin Phillipps of The Chills (right, sort of; spot of possibly ill-advised late-night photoshopping, hm), Matthew Bannister of Sneaky Feelings and Hamish Kilgour of The Clean. Poetry comes from Cilla McQueen, Emma Neale, Bill Sewell and many more illustrious wordsmiths.
Commissioned by Michele Leggott, director of the NZ Electronic Poetry Society, it’s a rich and broad-spectrum seam of all things bright and beautiful: a stunning slideshow of landscape photographs by twice Visa Gold finalist Kim Pieters, which go with site-specific poems … some of Cilla McQueen’s art, plus the full score of Anthony Ritchie's setting of Cilla's 'Timepiece'.
A fine legacy, and beautiful. Thanks David!
