Enterprising chaps Mark Pirie and Tim Jones are compiling an anthology of NZ science fiction poetry (had no idea this was a working genre but there you are) and are seeking submissions.
Submissions can be either original or reprinted work, and the deadline is 15 November 2004.
The editors define SF poetry as poetry that ‘speculates about the future, other worlds (inner or outer, virtual or real), space and time, and ways that reality might be, or become, different; poetry that uses the metaphors, imagery, and even cliches of science fiction to explore the world we think we know’ … love that ‘think’. At last, a chance to dust off those Saturnine stanzas and Venusian musings. We think this has legs. Maybe 8 or 10. We can but speculate.
New Zealand-residents and writers who are resident overseas but have spent a substantial part of their lives in New Zealand are welcome to submit. The anthology will include both new and previously published work. There is no limit on length but long poems will have to be exceptionally good to be accepted. And remember: in space, no-one can hear you rhyme.
