It's a hard life

University of Iowa campusCreative New Zealand is looking for a writer to take up a three-month residency at the University of Iowa (pictured) in the United States.

The International Writing Program residency starts in August 2004, and covers return airfares to Iowa plus a stipend. The University will provide accommodation at the Iowa House Hotel, on campus.

This residency is suitable for recognised New Zealand writers of fiction, poetry, drama, children’s fiction, screenplays, biography or cultural commentary. The successful applicant will have at least one published volume of work to his or her name.

The closing date for applications is 31 March 2004. According to Creative New Zealand’s blurb,

Applicants should be interested in interacting with writers from diverse cultures. Participants are given periods of unstructured time to work on their own writing projects but some afternoons will feature literary activities, excursions and field trips, and will include approximately two weeks in Nebraska City.
