brownjimg.jpgPoet James Brown has been announced as the 2004 Victoria University/Creative New Zealand Writer in Residence. He will take over from playwright Briar Grace-Smith.

Brown plans to work on a sequence of narrative poems during his residency. He’s been contributing poems to journals and magazines in Australia and New Zealand for more then 10 years, and is a former editor of the literary magazine Sport.

His collection Go Round Power Please won the Jessie Mackay Best First Book Award (Poetry) in the 1996 Montana New Zealand Book Awards and his other collections, Lemon and Favourite Monsters are both highly regarded.
