Canterbury Tales: the digital version

digitisation.jpgThe British Library has digitised its two Caxton editions of Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, and put the images online. Fourteen Japanese experts from Keio University in Tokyo spent ten days carrying out the photography, using a 16-megapixel Kodak camera.

The web site allows you to compare the two editions, page by page, and includes lots of background information on both Geoffrey Chaucer and William Caxton. In the UK, interest in Chaucer has been raised by a controversial (read saucy) BBC television adaptation of Canterbury Tales.
